From 2003 to 2005 he was a Research Fellow at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) in the laboratory of Prof. Buckberg. Since 2008, he has been senior physician and division head for cardiac and vascular surgery intensive care medicine and patient management at the University Heart Centre at Freiburg University Hospital.
